Pomegranates are not only delicious, but they are an amazing superfood as well. While they are high in vitamins C and K, it is their antioxidant properties which makes them a powerful superfood. Pomegranates are rich in polyphenols such as tannins, quercetin, anthocyanins and their very own antioxidants called punicalagins.
Studies have shown the fruit and juice of the pomegranate is beneficial in fighting cardiovascular disease and stroke. Recent scientific studies show pomegranate reduces the risk of heart disease by preventing and repairing cellular damage which may contribute to disease, makes platelets less sticky, reverses plaque build up in arteries and contributes to healthy blood pressure levels.
Pomegranate may also play a part in the prevention of cancer because of its high levels of polyphenols. These antioxidants may improve the health of good cells, while inducing the death of cancer cells; therefore, preventing cancer tumors from growing.
As if this isn't enough there is also research showing pomegranates have anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties.
Now go out and buy some pomegranates and add them to your breakfast cereal, salad, or eat them plain. At very least buy some pomegranate juice and drink an ounce or two, to your health every day!
